Network discovery: what is on your customer network

KairosLink walks each customer local network and builds the inventory of what is connected: the machines with an agent, the ones without, the printers, the cameras and the network gear. All from a device you already manage.

One probe, no appliance and no new box

The probe is a Windows device at the customer that already has the agent installed and stays powered on. There is no appliance to ship, no extra box to install on the customer network and no port to open: the sweep runs from the inside, from the same agent you already use for everything else.

The sweep runs once a day per probe, and can also be requested by hand whenever you need it. If the probe does not answer within 15 minutes, the panel says so instead of leaving the run hanging forever.

Management coverage: what nobody else tells you

The screen does not stop at the list of devices: it shows each customer management coverage, meaning how many machines on that network have an agent and how many do not. That number is what turns an inventory into a work list, and it is the easiest commercial conversation you will have with your customer.

What it brings back for each device

For each device it brings back the IP address, the MAC address, the name and the vendor, which is resolved on the server from the MAC. With that it assigns a type: printer, network gear, camera, Windows, Linux, Apple or unknown.

The type comes from a heuristic, and a heuristic gets things wrong: any device can be corrected by hand, given a friendly name, or marked as ignored so it stops showing up. The ones that matter can be put under monitoring, with an email alert when they stop responding.

What the sweep does not do

The sweep combines ping, the machine ARP table and a fixed, conservative list of ports against the hosts that answered. It is not a vulnerability scanner and does not pretend to be: the point is knowing what is there, not hammering the customer network.

Networks larger than a /22 are narrowed to the /24 the probe lives on, and the panel reports that with the result. Sweeping an enormous network entirely from a single machine takes longer than anyone will wait, and saying so beats returning an incomplete inventory without a word.
